On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump announced on Twitter that he had sought the resignation of National Security Advisor John Bolton, who he says disagreed with many of his (Trump's) suggestions.

Minutes after Trump's tweet, Bolton tweeted saying, "I offered to resign last night and President Trump said, "Let's talk about it tomorrow."

Bolton is the third National Security Advisor in Trump's administration so far, after H.R. McMaster and Michael Flynn.

Trump's tweet read, "I informed John Bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the White House. I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the Administration, and therefore I asked John for his resignation, which was given to me this morning. I thank John very much for his service. I will be naming a new National Security Advisor next week."

CNN reported inside sources saying that tensions between the two ramped up after Bolton pushed back against Trump's decision to invite Taliban leaders to Camp David for a now-cancelled peace talk.

Bolton joined the Trump administration on account of his hawkish foreign policy on Iran. But, on other matters of foreign policy, he disagreed with the president on North Korea and Afghanistan.

The Trump administration will announce a new NSA next week.
