If you ask me, taking a trip to Amsterdam was nothing less than a dream for me. Celebrating my last birthday there made the whole experience even more special. The Dutch capital had been on my wish list for many years, and experiencing it in person was unusually good.
On arrival, I was captivated by the city’s charm and stunning architecture. Every street in this part of the world, mind you, tells its own beautiful and unique story.
And what did I enjoy the most in Amsterdam? It was the canal cruise. I enjoyed it so much that I did it twice. The morning cruise, in fact, was kinda reflective. When I was passing along the placid water under elegant bridges and iconic canal houses, I was on cloud nine.
Passing through the beautifully lit bridges and the bright glow from homes along the canals I felt as I was stepping into some fairytale. To make the affair even more special, I indulged in a glass of wine combined with an assortment of delicious cheese; an extra touch of luxury to an already unforgettable evening.
Amsterdam’s sonorous street life also kept me engaged. The homely cafes invited me to linger there for hours, while the city’s culinary delights (crispy stroopwafels and freshly made Dutch pancakes) turned every bite into a treat.
I was also struck by Amsterdam’s passion for cycling. As an Indian, this is something we could certainly take inspiration from. All over I looked, people were pedalling through the streets, effortlessly incorporating a healthy, active lifestyle into their daily routines.
The club scene in the city was electrifying, filled with great music, energy, and an infectious atmosphere that made it impossible to resist. The parties were incredible, and the city’s enthusiasm was irresistible.
But, for me, the most thrilling experience was the giant swing. Suspended high above the city, I had such a panoramic view, unlike anything I had ever seen before. It was an exhilarating moment that I will always remember.
Dear readers of THE WEEK, Amsterdam is a city that leaves an unerasable speck on our soul. If you are looking for a destination that combines relaxation with adventure, make Amsterdam a top priority on your wish list. Visit as soon as you can; believe me you won’t regret it a bit.
