The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed former India spinner Pragyan Ojha as chairman of the Men’s Selection Committee, marking a significant change in the group responsible for choosing India’s senior men’s cricket team.

Ojha succeeds Ajit Agarkar, whose tenure included several international campaigns and tournament successes. Based on seniority (most Tests), the decision to choose Ojha as the chairman was taken. Former India spinner Ramesh Powar has also joined the selection panel. Since his appointment in July 2023, Agarkar has led the committee through a significant period for Indian cricket, with India winning three ICC trophies, two Asia Cup titles and back-to-back Asian Games gold medals.

Ramesh Powar joins the selection panel

As per the BCCI, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape, conducted a selection process for the appointment of a member of the Men’s Selection Committee. Following the process, the committee unanimously recommended the appointment of Ramesh Powar to the panel.

"Powar represented India in 2 Tests and 31 ODIs during his international playing career. He has since held major coaching roles, including Head Coach of the India Women’s team, Mumbai and Gujarat, as well as Bowling Coach at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. During his stint with the India Women’s team, he guided them to an Asia Cup title as well as a Commonwealth Games silver medal," the BCCI mentioned in a release.

Men’s selection committee members will now include Pragyan Ojha (Chairperson), Shiv Sundar Das, RP Singh, Ajay Ratra, and Ramesh Powar.
