Manchester United is reportedly on the verge of securing RB Leipzig's David Raum in the upcoming January transfer window, a move that would significantly bolster their left-back position. With Raum entering the final year of his contract, RB Leipzig may be compelled to accept an offer to avoid losing him on a free transfer. This potential acquisition is seen as a complementary short-term solution to the long-term prospect of Lewis Hall, who is slated to join from next summer. Raum's experience and market value of €25 million make him an attractive option for a Manchester United side seeking immediate defensive reinforcement.

Manchester United may have finally managed to convince a left-back to join its ranks as reports indicate RB Leipzig captain David Raum is likely to make the switch in January.

German international Raum is entering the final year of his contract with RB Leipzig, and if he refuses to sign a new deal, the Bundesliga side risks losing one of their experienced players to free agency. As a result, they will be forced to say yes to a formal offer from United in January, the report said.

Juventus was also linked to the 28-year-old left-back previously, but Manchester United have now emerged as a clear favourite, the report said. "As for Raum, sources close to the situation believe he would welcome the chance to test himself in the Premier League. He has previously acknowledged external interest and spoken of ambitions beyond the Bundesliga, while stopping short of confirming any formal contact," TeamTalk said in a report.

Lewis Hall, the primary target of Manchester United, is expected to join from next summer. This should not affect Raum, as the two players are projects that can unravel in parallel. Hall is a younger player—a long-term investment likely to become a vital part of the squad in the next decade. Raum, who joined Leipzig from Hoffenheim for €26 million in 2022, is more of a short-term solution as Michael Carrick's team are desperate to find a backup to the injury-prone Luke Shaw.

Raum has made 39 appearances for the national team so far and has a current market price of €25 million. RB Leipzig are currently ninth in the Bundesliga with two wins and two defeats, while Manchester United are twelfth in the Premier League with two draws, two defeats, and just one win.
