Contrasting reports have emerged regarding the future of Bruno Fernandes at Old Trafford. Initially, it was reported that United would not block a move if their talismanic skipper wished to look for a new challenge elsewhere. There is said to be a €65 million overseas release clause attached to the Portuguese's contract, which makes him an affordable target for non-English sides.

However, amidst fan uproar, follow-up stories claimed that the club higher-ups have decided that Fernandes is not up for sale, with the club bracing for a European return.

The exit talks were fuelled after it was reported that Turkish heavyweights Galatasaray were interested in him. The Saudi clubs have long been linked to Fernandes, whose current deal is set to expire in June 2027.

As per the latest report, Al-Nassr are believed to have been in touch with Fernandes's camp to find out about the financial sides of a possible signing. If the financial side of affairs is taken care of, Cristiano Ronaldo, a United legend himself, was reportedly willing to lead the negotiations. Ronaldo believes Fernandes can be such an asset to Al-Nassr that he was willing to try and convince him to come.

Al-Nassr haunted by financial strains?

However, if reports coming from the Middle East are to be trusted, securing the midfielder will not be an easy task for Al-Nassr even if United put him up for sale. The defending RSL champions are no longer in a financially stable position and further big-budget signings have been put on hold.

Al-Nassr are run by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) — the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia. The club's financial liabilities are now past 800 million riyals, which is over 187 million euros, forcing the PIF to impose a transfer ban. As per Saudi media, it was a set of poor financial decisions from the last campaign that led to the crisis, and radical measures will be implemented to prevent further damage.

If this is the case, Cristiano Ronaldo cannot expect world-class reinforcements like Bruno to reach Riyadh ahead of his league defence.
