Celico clarified through an Instagram video that this narrative originated from misinterpretations by foreign tabloids of a 2022 interview, leading to her being unfairly attacked and her image exploited. She emphasized that she and Kaká maintain a respectful co-parenting relationship with their two children, Luca and Isabella, and she is now remarried and expecting her third child, while Kaká has also remarried.

"Brazil legend Ricky Kaká's wife left him because he was too perfect!"

Most football fans on social media must have come across this claim at least once. Kaká's ex-wife, Caroline Celico, was reported as confessing that she decided to part ways with the Ballon d'Or winner because he was a flawless husband, and she found life with such a perfect partner overwhelming.

Over a decade after their divorce, Caroline Celico has finally denied ever making such a statement. The reason for her separation from the AC Milan legend was entirely different, and she stated that a section of the media quoted her out of context, which became an internet sensation. Having been attacked, criticised, and trolled over this remark, she has decided to take the legal route to prevent further distress.

Who is Caroline Celico?

Kaká, 44, is rated among the most influential footballers of the century. He is often praised as the "good boy of football" for his charming personality. “A really nice guy… in a profession of a-holes,” Planet Football quotes a sports journalist as once saying about the former Real Madrid superstar. His smiling, God-fearing, and hard-to-hate public image likely intensified the insults aimed at his former partner.

Caroline Celico is a famous model and entrepreneur in Brazil and has been co-parenting her children with her former husband since their split. The duo had been in love since childhood and tied the knot on December 23, 2005, in São Paulo. Their son, Luca Celico Leite, was born on June 10, 2008, and their daughter, Isabella Celico Leite, on April 23, 2011. It was in 2015 that Kaká and Celico announced their divorce via social media. Following the split, Kaká married a Brazilian model named Carolina Dias, while Celico married Eduardo Scarpa Julião.

What did Caroline Celico say?

She used Instagram to finally clarify that she didn't divorce Kaká for being too nice, and that the 'fake' and 'false' claims were wrongly attributed to her.

“I have a lot of respect for my lifetime story, and I am very grateful for everything I have lived so far. My ex-husband and I found a healthy way to raise our children, and I’m so grateful for this," Celico reportedly said.

In a two-minute and 25-second Instagram video shared with her 1.1 million followers, she clarified: “No. I never said that I separated from Kaká, the father of my oldest children, because he was too perfect. This is a lie.

"It came up in foreign tabloids as an interpretation by a journalist from an interview I gave in 2022, but those aren’t my words and never were. Their caption was replicated on countless websites both in Brazil and worldwide as if it were a quote from me, as if I said that. I never did," she said, according to Portuguese media.

Elaborating on the consequences of such a statement doing the rounds, the model-influencer added: "The story began to circulate when I was nine months pregnant with my youngest son, taking care of my older children, working hard in my company, and then I wake up one beautiful day to read this lie. For some people, it might even seem like nothing after rebuilding my family. I was very insulted, highly criticised. I received misogynistic and violent attacks. My image was used to sell courses, products, generate engagement and sexist speeches, and this is still happening, until now.

"And being attacked, wronged, used for something you didn’t say is one of the most frustrating things there is. We have no ground even to defend ourselves, and it wasn’t just me who was affected. Both of our families were affected without deserving this, and I tried to resolve this in other ways, but this hasn’t been resolved," she added.
