Delhi Capitals seamer Lungi Ngidi has not suffered any major injuries following Saturday's IPL game against Punjab Kings.
While it was not immediately clear if he will be available for the rest of the tournament, the fact that he has been discharged brings some solace after the horrors witnessed on the ground when the fast bowler's effort to take a catch went horrifically wrong.
Lungi Ngidi health update
Lungi Ngidi underwent several tests, including a CT scan, at the hospital, and fortunately, doctors confirmed that the South African suffered no serious injuries to his spine or brain following the awkward landing.
After being kept under observation for a few hours under the supervision of a neurosurgeon, it is learnt that his health has stabilised. Hence, the doctors have advised discharge. Accordingly, Lungi Ngidi was back with the Delhi Capitals at the team hotel, news reports said. However, the doctors have advised him to take more rest.
Lungi Ngidi is unlikely to play in the next match as the doctor has advised him to rest. One and a half hours after the horrific accident, an official IPL statement had confirmed that the pacer was in a stable condition and was due to be discharged soon.
Mitchell Starc will play in his place for Delhi Capitals, some unconfirmed reports said. The Australian veteran was unavailable for the opening matches of the IPL due to fitness concerns.
What happened to Lungi Ngidi?
Ngidi was trying to pouch a mishit from Punjab opener Priyansh Arya off Axar Patel on the third ball of the second over, but he grossly misjudged the travel path of the ball, which went past his outstretched right hand while he was airborne.
As a result, the Proteas player landed on his back, and the back of his head collided with the Arun Jaitley Stadium surface, leaving him in considerable pain.

He immediately covered his head, trying to recover from the fall, even as the on-field medical staff rushed to Ngidi with a stretcher.
Ngidi could be seen responding to the support staff as other Proteas players, Tristan Stubbs and David Miller, along with Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting and DC head coach Hemang Badani, came to check on him.
But he had to be stretchered into the waiting ambulance before being wheeled away to the hospital.
