Former Australia batter David Warner, who is playing for the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), was arrested in Sydney on Tuesday for drink-driving. The 39-year-old swashbuckling opener was pulled over in Maroubra during a random breath test.
According to news.com.au, Warner tried to stop and park his car before reaching the testing site. However, the New South Wales Police officers approached his vehicle and subjected him to a breath test, where he was found to have consumed alcohol above the permissible limits.
Warner was then arrested and taken to the Maroubra Police Station, where the blood alcohol reading showed 0.104. He will face a court hearing next month.
He is the captain of the Karachi Kings and had travelled to Australia for a brief break between PSL matches. The side are currently second in the points table with three wins on the trot. Warner is expected to rejoin the team ahead of their next fixture on April 9, against Peshawar Zalmi at the National Stadium in Karachi.
Warner retired from international cricket in 2024, but plays in franchise leagues, including the popular Big Bash League (BBL). He enjoyed a successful season for the Sydney Thunder and was also named the captain of the official team of the tournament. He was the leading run-scorer in the season – 433 runs in eight matches – but his team won just two games and finished last in the standings.
In the mega auction for IPL 2026, Warner, who had a base price of ₹2 crore, went unsold. He won the IPL title with the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016.
He played 112 Tests, 161 ODIs and 110 T20Is for Australia, scoring more than 15,000 runs across the three formats.
