Right before India handed Pakistan a crushing defeat at the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in Colombo on Sunday, ICC Chief Jay Shah and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) President Mohsin Naqvi were spotted leaving the stadium.
A video, captured by PTI, which has now been reshared many times on social media platforms, showed the two leaving the R. Premadasa Stadium in their black cars.
Naqvi was seated next to Sri Lankan president Anura Kumara Dissanayake in the VVIP enclosure along with PCB COO Salman Nasser and Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva.
Media on the ground confirmed that the PCB chief had left the stadium after Mohammad Nawaz got out in the 12th over and the required run rate climbed rapidly.
There has been no official explanation for Naqvi leaving the game early.
India’s Suryakumar Yadav-led team continued their dominance in the game after they scored a 61-run victory on Sunday. The team has now sealed qualification for the Super Eights after a third victory.
Pakistan's loss came after they chose to field after winning the toss. The team has now tied with the USA and has to beat Namibia on Wednesday to stay in the game.
Meawhile former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar lashed out at Naqvi for being a failed leader.
Pakistan’s team has been noticeably getting knocked out in the first round of each of the ICC events since Naqvi took the reins. The green shirts have now lost nine games against India in multiple formats.
Aktar called the PCB chief “incompetent” and ‘Jaheel (ignorant)’.
Speaking to ABP News, he said, "Now one guy doesn't even know he's the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. How will the team run now? You're saying one guy, you've made him a superstar, he can't win a single match. You've made him a star who can't win a single living match.”
“Brother, when you make these kinds of stars, when you choose them, when you pick them, then you'll have this problem only. But again, the point is, if you see, you know what the biggest crime in the world is? The biggest crime in the world is that you give a big job to an incompetent person."
Akhtar spoke about the troubles that follow when an unqualified person is handed power.
"When you give a big job to an incompetent and ignorant person, he will destroy the country. He will bring down any organisation. The example is in front of you; you're intelligent enough to understand," Akhtar added.
This is not the first time Naqvi has walked off after Pakistan’s losses.
The last time Naqvi made headlines during a cricket match was when he seemingly refused to hand over the Asia Cup to the Indian team, who stood there victorious. The team had refused to take the trophy from Naqvi’s hands, and Naqvi just walked off.
