The BBL final ended on Sunday (January 25) with Perth Scorchers recording their sixth title, courtesy a clinical six-wicket win over Sydney Sixers in Perth. The final was largely one-sided with the hosts dominating it from start to finish and the Scorchers were deserved winners of the trophy.
Meanwhile, Cricket Australia's heart-warming gesture after the BBL final won hearts. It was pre-decided by CA that the medal distribution would be done by a group of select kids who would do the honours. Subsequently, each player from the Scorchers and Sixers camp walked up to the podium with the kids bestowing the medal on them.
This sweet gesture was a fitting end to the BBL season that saw plenty of excellent cricket all-round. Scorchers were arguably the best all-round side of the tournament and fittingly topped the group as well, which gave them the chance to host the Qualifier and final. They only lost three games out of the ten matches in the league stages.
The other three qualified teams all ended with six wins but the Hobart Hurricanes and Sixers lost only thrice while Melbourne Stars ended up registering four defeats in the campaign. Ironically, the Stars began the season with four wins in a row before enduring a mixed campaign thereafter.
The finalists, Scorchers and Sixers, played each other four times in the tournament and the eventual champions were victorious on all those occasions, that too by some distance. With the BBL done and dusted, it's now time for Australia's T20 World Cup-bound players to recharge their batteries before heading to India for the showpiece event.
