Manchester United might be going through a turbulent phase right now but the brand value of the club remains iconic in the annals of footballing history. Any passionate fan of the sport would undoubtedly have heard, known or watched the glorious Manchester United era under Sir Alex Ferguson.
What about the current generation who haven't seen much of United's glorious days? Well, major film-television production studio Lionsgate have initiated plans to construct a TV series about the club's fabled history. According to The Athletic, Manchester United have already reached an agreement with Lionsgate regarding the project.
While there is clarity yet on who would helm this ambitious project, popular director Jed Mercurio has allegedly been in conversation with Lionsgate executives regarding the finer details of this project. The talks are still in their initial stages and there is a lot more work to be done before anything concrete can be revealed.
Lionsgate's idea is to paint the entire picture of United's roller-coaster ride as a footballing club. While the Ferguson era will be the major highlight of the series, it will also track back in time from the 1950 onwards to give a clear picture of the club's culture and storied past.
Manchester United are the third major English club in line for a TV series/documentary. Their two major rivals, Liverpool FC and Manchester City, have already inked out definite projects respectively. As of now, there hasn't been any official comment from Old Trafford while Lionsgate have opted to stay silent for the moment.
