Barely two weeks after a largely successful IPL 2026 Auction, Kolkata Knight Riders are set for another positive development, this time in the ownership ranks. For those unaware, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan owns 55 percent of KKR while the remaining 45 percent is between actress Juhi Chawla and her husband, businessman Jay Mehta's Mehta Group.
As per latest reports from the KKR camp, Shah Rukh is set to buy a large amount of shares from Mehta who had recently opted to put them up for sale. Initially, there were speculations about the addition of a new co-owner to the KKR camp. However, sources close to the franchise have now confirmed that it will indeed be Shah Rukh who shall buy those shares from the Mehta Group.
It must be noted that Chawla's shares will continue to be with her but the total percentage of this is negligible in comparison to the cumulative shares of Shah Rukh and Mehta. Also, the Mehta Group will not be letting go for the complete shares and will keep a few of them as a symbol of support for their superstar friend.

More details are awaited on when the takeover process will be done. Once the formalities get completed, Shah Rukh will reportedly have around 90 percent shares in KKR, effectively giving him absolute ownership of the three-time IPL champions. This development is in the aftermath of an immensely successful financial year for Shah Rukh.
The 60-year-old didn't have any film releases this year but brand endorsements and other investment jumps saw his net worth catapault by a considerable percentage this year. Shah Rukh became the first Indian actor to join the billionaire club and his net worth is reported to be around $1.40 billion at the moment. This data has been obtained from the Hurun India Rich List 2025 which was published in October.
