Abhishek Sharma's meteoric rise in the T20 format continues. The explosive left-hander was once again at his lethal best during the 2025 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy encounter against Services in Hyderabad. Opening the batting for Punjab, Sharma blasted 62 off just 34 deliveries with eight fours and three sixes as the team smashed 233 in their 20 overs. Eventually, they won the game by 73 runs.

Sharma's 62 was the top-score in Punjab's majestic batting display and during this knock, the southpaw unlocked an Indian record in T20 cricket. He became the first batter from the country to register 100 T20 sixes in a calendar year, something that even the likes of Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni or Virat Kohli couldn't.

Abhishek's latest milestone comes a month after he set a world record in T20Is, becoming the fastest to 1000 runs in the format in terms of balls faced. The Punjab lad got there in just 528 balls and has a career strike rate of 189 in international T20 cricket, while also averaging 37.48 - landmark combination when you consider the average and strike rate together.

Six-hitting is Abhishek's biggest currency in run-scoring and he has already hit 66 sixes in 28 innings for India. During the ongoing SMAT 2025 season, he has already hit 26 sixes in just six games, one more than Mumbai's Ayush Mhatre (25). Abhishek's unprecedented strike rate of 275 is also the highest by any batter in this season, with no other batter breaching 200.
