Shreyas Iyer's road to recovery is being closely monitored by sources close to the cricketer. There was some positive news early on Monday (October 27) as Iyer was moved out of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after being admitted initially due to internal bleeding.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is directly in conversation with the team management regarding the status of Iyer's treatment in Australia. Currently, Iyer is at St Vincent's Hospital in Sydney where he was admitted on Saturday (October 25). According to sources, the BCCI is expected take a call on future course of action within the next 48 hours.
There isn't any clarity yet on the route ahead for Iyer regarding his treatment and the medical staff is currently evaluating the situation on a daily basis. The Indian team has travelled to Canberra for the start of the T20I series that begins on Wednesday (October 29). However, the team doctor is still in Sydney, keeping a keen eye on Iyer's progress.
According to RevSportz, the Indian team management is frequently having conversations with the team doctor and the hospital medical staff regarding the next stage of treatment. Depending on the discussions that will are being held in these few days, the BCCI and the team management will decide whether to continue the treatement in the same hospital or to move Iyer to a different place.
The injury was sustained while fielding when Iyer landed awkwardly during his diving catch that dismissed Alex Carey in the final ODI of the series. The Punjab Kings skipper immediately showed extreme discomfort and had to be escorted off the field.
Consequent diagnosis revealed spleen laceration which occurred due to the lower rib injury sustained while fielding. Understandably, he was unavailable to bat in the game although Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma ensured that nobody else had to bat.
