Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli may have arguably played their final international game in Australia. The legendary duo ensured that their farewell game was a memorable one as they combined for an unbroken 169-run stand to see India to a comfortable nine-wicket win in the 3rd ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday (October 25).

As it happened

Chasing an under-par target of 238, India got off to a blistering start in the first PowerPlay as they smashed 69 runs but they also lost the wicket of their skipper Shubman Gill who looked good in his brief stay. It brought together Rohit and Kohli with the latter sitting on two successive ducks prior to this innings.

As they say, form is temporary and class is permanent, and Kohli overcame a shaky start to produce yet another crucial knock in an ODI run chase. Meanwhile, Rohit had found his mojo in Adelaide and continued that form by bringing up his 33rd ODI century to cap off a fine series for the ex-skipper.

Rohit ended with 121*(125) with 13 fours and three maximums while Kohli ended with 74*(81) with seven boundaries to his name. During their marathon stand, the duo managed some individual milestones and also a major partnership milestone.

Milestones

  • This was the 12th 150-plus partnership between Kohli and Rohit in ODIs, equalling Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly for the most 150-plus partnerships in the format

  • Rohit Sharma now has the most ODI centuries by a visiting batter in Australia (6) with Kohli (5) at second spot

  • When on 54*, Kohli went past Kumar Sangakkara to become the second-highest run scorer in ODIs, beating Kumar Sangakkara and is now only behind Sachin Tendulkar

  • When on 68*, Kohli went past Sachin Tendulkar for the most runs scored in white-ball international cricket

  • This is only India's third ODI win vs Australia at the SCG and Rohit has 50-plus scores in all of them - 66*, 99 and 121*
  • After six years, Adam Zampa went wicketless in a home ODI where he has bowled his full quota of ten overs

  • Kohli and Rohit now have 19 century stands in ODIs, third most by any pair. They went past Rohit-Dhawan who had 18 centuries in the format
