India and New Zealand meet in a high-stakes clash of the Women's ODI World Cup 2025 at the DY Patil stadium in Mumbai on Thursday (October 23). Australia, South Africa and England have already booked their respective semifinal slots, with just one semifinal spot up for grabs. Sri Lanka have a very slim chance but realistically, it's between India and New Zealand for that one spot.

What happens if India beat New Zealand

A win for Harmanpreet Kaur's girls will ensure a semifinal berth, because New Zealand and Sri Lanka cannot get to three wins. Number of games won will be the first deciding factor and only after that will net run rate come into play.

What happens if India lose to New Zealand

A loss for India would take the qualification race right down to the wire. In such a scenario, India will have to beat Bangladesh and also hope that New Zealand loses to England. In such a scenario, the net run rate will come into play and it will be a tough ask for the White Ferns to overtake India in that department.

What happens if India-New Zealand game is a tie or washed out

In such a scenario, a win for India against Bangladesh should be enough, regardless of how New Zealand fare against England. This is because the net run rate gap between India and New Zealand is too big to be compensated within one game. Only if India lose by an incredibly high margin and New Zealand wins by a similarly high margin, will India be knocked out.
