Despite interest from Real Madrid, Arsenal's French centre-back William Saliba is set to sign a new contract with the London club that will keep him at the Emirates Stadium until 2030, a fresh report claimed.

Saliba, 24, rated among the finest defenders of his generation, was under Real Madrid's radar for some time now. While the Gunners had initiated renewal talks since May, the Los Blancos' influence was said to be among the factors that kept it going on. Saliba's current contract is set to run out in June 2027 but now has reached verbal agreements with the club which will extend his stay for another three years, The Athletic reportedly claimed.

The renewed contract will be signed by Saliba in a matter of days, the report said. As per the report, the Frenchman, who is the sixth highest paid Arsenal player with a salary of around £190,000 a week, will receive a major salary boost as a part of the new contract, the report added.

In March, the former Saint-Etienne defender had said that he was happy at Arsenal but there was no rush to sign an extension with the Mikel Arteta-managed side. Although Arsenal had acquired him from the Ligue 1 side when he was still a teenager, it was not till the 2020-21 season that he got to don the colours of the English side.

He also spent loan deals with Nice and Marseille before getting to form a formidable wall at the heart of the Arsenal defence alongside Brazilian Gabriel Magalhaes.

Earlier reports had said that the Los Blancos would boost their effort to sign the Frenchman after it was learned that the Gunners approximated his market price to be around just €80 million. Hitting his prime, Saliba was open to a fresh challenge and Real were willing to pay up to €100 million to bring him to the Santiago Bernabéu, the reports added. However, the new development puts all speculations to rest.
