Inter Milan left-back Federico Dimarco is being targeted by Manchester United, who could make an offer in January, a new report said. The Premier League side believes the 27-year-old Italy international's arrival could be key to strengthening Ruben Amorim's project. The Portuguese manager has effectively used wing-backs to counter through the flanks during his tenure in Lisbon and the availability of Dimarco could help him turn things around after a disastrous start to the season. Dimarco has never played outside Italy and United are aware that it is not going to be a cheap purchase, the reports said.

Rated among the best active left-backs, Dimarco has played 32 times for the Italian national team so far and is heavily rated by legends like Roberto Carlos. His attacking prowess is impressive as he has managed 19 goals and 35 assists in 195 matches so far. The stout defender, who has had loan spells at Parma and Hellas Verona among other teams, signed a contract extension with the club on December 30, 2023, which will keep him in San Siro until mid-2027. The Italian giants, however, are willing to listen to offers for their home-grown talent, Fichajes said in a report.

Inter Milan are open to negotiations for Dimarco ahead of the winter window as their current gaffer Christian Chivu prefers Carlos Augusto over him. Manchester United are reportedly all in as Dimarco's profile easily fits into his favourite 3-4-2-1 system, Fichajes claimed. Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu have not been ideal left-wing backs for United so far and Diogo Dalot is often used on the other side by the gaffer. Thus, somebody with proven box-to-box quality on the left flank could give the side a much-needed boost in the second half of the season, if the deal goes through. Federico Dimarco’s current market price is estimated around €60 million according to Transfermarkt.

After the worst start in their history in over three decades, Manchester United are currently eleventh in the Premier League table thanks to their victory over Chelsea. Amorim is said to be under pressure and has been given a deadline by the Old Trafford higher-ups to fix things and save his job. The Red Devils are up against Brentford next in an away fixture.
