Match Day-3 of the 2025-26 English Premier League starts off at Stamford Bridge where Chelsea gear up to host Fulham in the first fixture of the weekend. Early days in the season but both teams are unbeaten after their two games respectively.

Chelsea began the season with a drab 0-0 draw at home against Crystal Palace. Despite having 19 shots in the gamme, they only had three on target. The Blues had 11 corners, another important statistic that shows their domination but unfortunately for Enzo Maresca's men, they couldn't translate the dominance into three points. That, however, was rectified in their first away fixture of the season, as they hammered West Ham 5-1 with the side having five different goal-scorers in the game too. With a bit more efficiency, they could have embarrassed West Ham further but it was still a sensational performance from Chelsea.

Fulham, meanwhile, salvaged draws in their opening two games of the season. Generally, two draws in a row to begin the season isn't ideal but given that they came against potentially stronger opponents will boost Fulham's morale. There was a similarity in the trends of the two games as well, as Fulham had to come back from a goal down to snare a late equalizer. In their season opener against Brighton, Fulham left it very late as Rodrigo Muniz helped them earn a point by scoring in the 97th minute of the game. Against Manchester United, the equalizer came much earlier, roughly within 15 minutes of the Red Devils's goal that was ironically an own goal from Muniz. His teammate Emile Smith Rowe made amends by notching up the equalizer to ensure that Fulham secured a valuable point.

Tactics

Fulham are a dogged side that rely on keeping consistency in their defensive shape while also relying on brisk transitions. However, they do tend to be lax at times and against a ruthless side like Chelsea, that could be a recipe for disaster. The visitors have a 4-2-3-1 formation with Muniz as the lone striker, accompanied by Alex Iwobi and Timothy Castagne on the wings with Joshua King as an attacking midfielder. Fulham rely a lot on their defensive midfielders in Sander Berge and Sasa Lukic for stability but both are prone to overdoing aggression, and that could be hazardous against Chelsea's swift attacking group.

For Chelsea, the gameplay will simple - do what they have always been doing under Maresca, relying on possession and positional play with quick passes and fast breaks down either side. Cole Palmer isn't fit yet but there is enough ammunition in the hosts's tank to decimate Fulham. Young Estevao has impressed on the right wing while Joao Pedro, Pedro Neto and Liam Delap are seasoned attacking threats. The midfield duo of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandes are the engine room of Chelsea's attack, and will be tough for the Fulham side to handle, as the Blues hope register their first home win of the season.

Goal data and predictions

Historically, this has been a low-scoring encounter with 89 goals scored in the 39 games between the two sides, which means approximately a shade above two goals per game. Chelsea have won 24 of these games while Fulham have three wins with 12 draws. These stats are slightly boosted by the last two Premier League games between the sides that had three goals apiece in them. It could be more of the same in this fixture, particularly with Palmer unavailable. It might not be an end-to-end game but could still have a few goals in it.

Prediction: Chelsea 2 Fulham 1
