Nitish Kumar Reddy is one of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket today. Seam-bowling all-rounders are a rarity in the country and barring Hardik Pandya who is a white-ball specialist these days, Reddy is arguably the next in line if we look at potential alone. He still needs to add a yard of pace to his bowling but overall, the Hyderabad lad looks primed for greater things.
Reddy played a key part in Sunrisers Hyderabad's runners-up finish in IPL 2024, a breakthrough year that also saw him gain selection to India's T20I squad. It meant that he was one of SRH's retained players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, the last 12 months haven't been kind to the all-rounder who has had several injuries which hampered his IPL season this year. Even in the games that he played, he wasn't batting at his usual top-order slots like in IPL 2024. Sunrisers' losing run also didn't help and the fact that Reddy barely bowled this year due to injury also added to the pressure on him.
Recently, there were talks that the 22-year-old isn't happy with his status at SRH and social media was buzzing with rumors of his possible exit prior to IPL 2026. Since the trading system was introduced in the IPL few years ago, it has become the norm for such rumours to come during off-season. While some of these talks have also turned into reality, the biggest being Hardik's trade from Gujarat Titans to Mumbai Indians, in most cases the rumours have been baseless to say the least. Adding to this chapter is the one regarding Reddy's alleged dissatisfaction with the SRH management.

The allegations were regarding the change in Reddy's changed batting order and lack of game time this season, and certain media houses racked out the news stating that he was on the verge of leaving the franchise.
However, on Sunday (July 27), Reddy took to his social media account on X to dish out a clarification statement on the issue.
"I tend to stay away from the noise, but some things deserve clarity. My connection with SRH is built on trust, respect, and years of shared passion. I’ll always stand by this team.", Reddy wrote on X.
The latest to Reddy's unfortunate list of injuries came in the ongoing tour of England where he suffered a knee injury that ruled him out after the Lord's Test. Currently, the all-rounder is back in India and aiming to set up rehab plans to get fit for India's packed home season that begins in the last quarter of the year.
