Rishabh Pant was forced to prematurely leave the field after getting injured in the foot on the opening day of the fourth India-England Test at Old Trafford.

Batting on 37 off 48 balls, the wicketkeeper-batter tried to play a reverse sweep off a full ball from Chris Woakes. The ball crashed into his right foot, with England appealing for an LBW. They reviewed the umpire's 'not out' decision, but the ultra edge showed there was a faint inside edge.

However, the blow left Pant's foot bleeding and swollen.

The physios checked on him during the drinks break as he could not stand properly. Unable to walk, he had to be helped off the field in a golf cart.

It should be noted that Pant was already down with injury woes, with his index finger injured in the previous Test match at Lord's. Dhruv Jurel kept wickets in his place in that match.

The injury is a serious concern for India as the visitors hope to level the series with a victory in this Test. India are trailing 1-2 against England after three matches. If the injury persists on the second day, Pant will be forced to sit out for rest of the match.

Ravindra Jadeja joined Sai Sudharsan at the crease following Pant's departure. However, Sudharsan was soon dismissed by Ben Stokes for 61 off 151.

India reached 264 for four at stumps on day one, with Jadeja (19 batting off 37) and Shardul Thakur (19 batting off 36) holding fort. Indian openers KL Rahul (46 off 98 balls) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (58 off 107) put on 94 runs for the first wicket, making it their highest opening partnership in the series.
