Jasprit Bumrah overtakes Kapil Dev, equals Imran Khan with five-wicket haul in Lord's Test

Jasprit Bumrah keeps adding new milestones to his kitty almost on a daily basis. Getting your name on the Lord's honours board is a dream for any young cricketer, be it with the bat or with the ball. Scoring a century or picking up a five-wicket haul is the requisite for it, and Bumrah achieved that feat on the second day of the third Test against England on Friday (July 11).

It was his 13th five-wicket haul in away Tests, making the most successful Indian bowler in this regard, overtaking Kapil Dev (12). Bumrah also drew level with Imran Khan (13) for the most away Test fifers by Asian pacers with only Wasim Akram (17) ahead of him.

After a largely underwhelming opening day when he picked just a solitary wicket apart from also looking a tad off-colour, Bumrah sprung back to his peak levels on the second morning. With the second new ball still fresh, Bumrah unleashed himself on England's batters in a menacing spell that saw him pick up two big breakthroughs to start the day. The first to fall was Ben Stokes, whose unusually dogged vigil ended with a cracking delivery that angled in and straightened just enough to sneak past his defences to make a mess of the stumps.

Soon after, the other set batter Joe Root was the victim, shortly after he had got to his 37th Test hundred. Even for a well-set batter who was on 104, Bumrah's in-seaming delivery was too hot to handle. Root tried to keep it out but was late on the shot and could only get an inside edge onto the sticks. It was the 11th time that Bumrah had taken out Root in Tests, the joint-most the Englishman had fallen to a single bowler alongside Australia's Pat Cummins.

The double-strike was just the momentum India needed and Bumrah topped off the spell with a wicket off the very next ball to dispatch Chris Woakes for a golden duck. It was another lovely delivery that straightened just a bit after the inward angle, forcing Woakes to play at it. Initially, it seemed like there wasn't an edge and wasn't given on-field either. However, Gill had enough support from his mates to take the review and DRS gave Bumrah his third wicket of the morning.

After getting his four-fer rather early in the day, Bumrah had to wait a bit for his fifth. It finally came in the post-lunch session when a sharp in-dipper crashed through Jofra Archer's defences to put the Indian pace ace on the Lord's honours board.
