SRH's Sri Lankan allrounder Kamindu Mendis took an astonishing catch to dismiss a dangerous-looking Dewald Brevis of the Chennai Super Kings on Friday. There was a brief silence in the stands of Chepauk as Mendis flew to grab the ball that was safely travelling past the boundary ropes.
It was in the 12th over the game bowled by Harshal Patel that Mendis pulled off the impossible at long off. Playing his first game of the season after replacing injured CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, Brevis was batting on 42 from 24 balls. Having blasted a sixer in the previous ball, South Africa's "Baby ABD" played another lofted shot -- slashing a fuller delivery from Patel. A calculated jump to his left helped Mendis to cling to the ball with both hands while still airborne. As he showed the ball was safe inside his palm, an excited SRH skipper Pat Cummins rushed towards him alongwith other teammates who lifted Mendis up jovially.
