Virat Kohli became the third player to score 14,000 or more runs in ODIs on Sunday. Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara (14,234) and Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar (18,426) are the only batters with more runs in the format than Kohli.

Virat Kohli, the only active player in the "14,000 club", is also the fastest to reach the unique feat. The 36-year-old Delhi batter surpassed Tendulkar's record of reaching the landmark in 350 innings, by achieving the same in only 287 innings. Sangakkara needed 378 innings to get to the mark.

Virat Kohli needed 15 runs against Pakistan to break his former teammate's record and did so after being summoned to the crease following the dismissal of Rohit Sharma (21 from 15) in the fifth over. Interestingly, Kohli crossed the 13,0000 mark in the format against Pakistan as well during the 2023 Asia Cup in Colombo.
