A men’s football tournament that is primarily held in South America, Copa America is one of the oldest active international football tournaments in the world. The word ‘Copa America’ translates to ‘America Cup’.  Apart from the winning title, the winning team wins a sense of national valour and pride that has been highly valued for a long time. 

From the iconic 30-minute hat trick by Lionel Messi that secured a 5-0 victory for his team to watching Chile win back-to-back titles, fans are always thrilled to witness the COPA. Not so long ago, it was during the Copa America tournament, that we witnessed Lionel Messi claim his very first international trophy.

The prestigious tournament is returning in 2024 with promises of the portrayal of electrifying entertainment, with the matches being held in the United States. While the structure of the tournament has been ever-evolving since the beginning, there has been a new format decided for the 2024 season specifically. The series will start with four groups consisting of four teams and it is the top two teams at the end of the first round that progress to the knockout stage that consists of quaterfinals, semifinals and the final. 

From Lionel Messi to Alexis Sanchez and Christian Pulisic, there are some remarkable players that fans cannot wait to see in action. As we are getting nearer kick-off, a preliminary list of players has been announced by most of the competing teams, giving us a small window to build up our expectations for the tournament.

With 16 teams participating in COPA 2024, reigning champions Argentina have joined the teams to announce the squad for the tournament.  On the other hand, Uruguay, Jamaica and Canada are among the teams to shortlist their players for the continental tournament.
