Premier League club Brighton confirmed on Saturday that its manager Roberto De Zerbi will leave the club at the end of the season. The Seagull's game against Manchester United on May 19 will be the final game of the Italian coach, the club said.
Roberto De Zerbi, 44, arrived at Brighton in September 2022 after Graham Potter left for Chelsea.
"I am very sad to be leaving Brighton, but I am very proud of what my players and staff have achieved with the support of everyone at the club and our amazing fans in the past two historical seasons. We have agreed to end my time at Brighton so that the club and I can continue to work in the way that suits each of us best, following our own ideas and visions, as well as our work and human values," the manager was quoted as telling the club website.
De Zerbi managed to finish the 2022-23 league campaign as the sixth-placed English top-tier club -- Brighton's best performance in history. He also managed to take the team to the round of sixteen in the Europa League.
In the current campaign, the team is in tenth position, only above Bournemouth on goal difference.
Earlier it was reported that German giants Bayern Munich were interested in bringing De Zerbi on board as the replacement for Thomas Tuchel. However, Tuchel has reportedly changed his mind to leave Bavaria -- provided the club wants to retain him.
Andrea Maldera, Ricard Segarra, Marcattilio Marcattilii, Vincenzo Teresa, Agostino Tibaudi, Marcello Quinto and Enrico Venturelli will also leave after tomorrow’s final Premier League match, the club's website said in a release. However, coaches Andrew Crofts and Jack Stern will remain with Brighton & Hove Albion, it added.
