Olympic gold medallist Simone Biles took to social media today to announce her engagement to NFL player and boyfriend Jonathan Owens.

Biles, 24, shared several photos with Owens, 26, showing him proposing to her, and the couple celebrating the moment on Valentine's Day.

"THE EASIEST YES," the US gymnast wrote. "I can’t wait to spend forever & ever with you, you’re everything I dreamed of and more! let’s get married FIANCÉ."

The two had met on social media around two years ago, during the Covid-induced lockdown around the world.

Owens was her pillar of support when pulled out of the Tokyo Olympics last summer and returned home. Biles was the favourite to win an unprecedented six gold medals at a single Olympics but after her first vault on the fifth day of the competition, she withdrew from several other events citing a case of the “twisties”, a dangerous mental block that gymnasts face when they lose muscle memory.

“Imma ride with you through whatever baby,” Owens wrote to Biles on Instagram.

“Your strength and courage is unmatched and you inspire me more and more everyday SB. You always gone be my champ baby and don't you ever forget that, i love you so much and i can't wait till you come home and i get to see that beautiful smile again. You know I'm always here for you baby.”

Biles has won a combined total of 32 Olympic and World Championship medals, making her the most decorated gymnast of all time.
