Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will face off in the round of 16 of the Champions League as the clubs they joined this season Manchester United and Paris St Germain have drawn each other.
The other big clash of the first knockout round is between champions of Spain and Germany, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Champions League holders Chelsea have gotten an easy draw as they take on French side Lille, while last year's runners-up Manchester City will play winners of the last Europa League Villareal.
Real Madrid will play Portuguese side Benfica, which beat FC Barcelona 3-0 in the group stage. This will be the first knockout stage since 2004 in which Barcelona will not be a part of.
The other match-ups are Liverpool vs FC Salzburg, Inter Milan vs FC Ajax, Sporting CP vs Juventus.
The two legs of the round of 16 matches will be played on February 15-16 and 22-23.
For the first time, the away-goals ruled has been scrapped from the 2021-22 season knockout stage. The rule was applied to determine the winner of a two-legged knockout tie in cases where the two teams had scored the same number of goals on aggregate over the two matches. If one team had scored more away goals, they would qualify for the next round.
The 2021-22 Champions League final will be held in St Petersburg in May.
