Former cricketer Michael Vaughan have panned the England management for their team selection against India in the third Test after the visitors failed to fire with the bat during a rough Day 1 in which they were bundled out for 112.

The former captain likened it to English Premier League teams in the early stages of the FA Cup round implying that England were not taking it seriously “against the best team in the world”.

The England and Wales Cricket Board continued to change the squad for every match against India due to their rotation policy, and this has not gone down well with many ex-cricketers, including Vaughan.

“England have treated selection for this series like premier league teams treat the early stages of the FA Cup rounds ... #INDvENG Against the best team in the world !!!!!!!” he tweeted.

“It’s the non spinning deliveries that England haven’t been able to play ... Scars from the 2nd Test me thinks ... England just don’t have enough skilled players in these conditions ...,” he said in another tweet.

“England out skilled again .. No point in saying anything else .. India too good again today ..,” Vaughan tweeted at the end of day 1.

England suffered a batting collapse in the ongoing third Test, a day/night match, at the revamped stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad that was renamed to Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday. The visitors experienced a similar disappointing performance in the second Test in Chennai, which India won by 317 runs.

Axar Patel picked up six wickets giving away just 38 runs, his second five-for in just his second Test match playing for India. The 27-year-old spinner also became only the third Indian bowler to take a five-wicket haul in his first two matches.

Ravichandran Ashwin, too, took three crucial wickets as Indian spinners wreaked havoc on the England batsmen.

India were at 99/3 at stumps on day 1 with Rohit Sharma (57) and Ajinkya Rahane (1) at the crease.
