Former cricketer Ricky Ponting was targeted by thieves who broke into his home in Melbourne last week, according to Australian media. The former captain was with his wife and three children at his bayside home when the break-in happened.
Reports said that Ponting and his family were unharmed, but the thieves managed to steal his car that was parked in the driveway, 7 News reported. Following the incident, police launched an intense search operation to track the car.
The police retrieved the vehicle Melbourne’s Camberwell area after it was seen being driven dangerously through the city. Two men who were seen fleeing Ponting’s property are yet to be apprehended. The police are on the lookout for the suspects.
Ponting is back in his Melbourne home following his commentary commitments with the Big Bash League and India’s tour of Australia, which concluded last month with the visitors scripting a remarkable 2-1 series win.
Ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League, Ponting is expected to resume his coaching duties for the Delhi Capitals, having led the franchise to the IPL 2020 final last year in the UAE. He is also likely to join the team management at the auction event which is scheduled to be organised on February 18.
