West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle once again proved his superior batting prowess with a brilliant half century in the Abu Dhabi T10 League that also happened to be the joint-fastest fifty in the history of the format.
Gayle scored an unbeaten 84 off just 22 balls to help guide Team Abu Dhabi to a nine-wicket win against Maratha Arabians on Wednesday. Of 84 runs, 78 came from boundaries as his fifty included nine sixes and six fours.
His half-century, however, came in just 12 balls, equalling the fastest fifty in the history of the T10 format previously scored by Mohammad Shahzad of Rajputs in the 2018 edition.
The T10 league took to Twitter to celebrate the Universe Boss’s achievement, crowning him the “MVP of the day”.
“Well batted, @henrygayle. The universe boss is our @Dream11 MVP of the day!” tweeted the official account of the Abu Dhabi T10.
As for the match, after Abu Dhabi won the toss, the Maratha Arabians managed to post just 97/4 in their 10 overs. One could say that match was wrapped up quickly after Gayle came in like a hurricane and blew them over with his record knock.
The Abu Dhabi team are placed fourth in the points table with two wins in five matches.
The T10 League, in its fourth season, is the world’s only 10-over cricket tournament sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC). It is the brainchild of businessman Nawab Shaji Ul Mulkand and is licensed by the Emirates Cricket Board.
