Social media erupted in joy after India won the final Test against Australia at the Gabba by three wickets and the four-match series 2-1 on Tuesday.

The visitors retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the second time in a row, having registered a historic win two years ago.

Rishabh Pant’s impressive and mature knock helped India chase down 328 for the loss of seven wickets with just 18 balls to spare in the session. He hit a boundary off Josh Hazlewood when India needed 3 runs to win. Pant scored a stellar 89 off 138 balls with nine fours and a six.

With the win, India also ended Australia’s 32-year unbeaten streak at the Gabba.

Leading the congratulatory messages was Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who tweeted that he was “overjoyed at the success of the Indian Cricket Team” in Australia.

“We are all overjoyed at the success of the Indian Cricket Team in Australia. Their remarkable energy and passion was visible throughout. So was their stellar intent, remarkable grit and determination. Congratulations to the team! Best wishes for your future endeavours,” he wrote.

Former cricketers and legends also took to social media to laud the team which has faced many a challenge during the tour.
