England cricketer Stuart Broad came up with a hilarious tweet in response to his father, Chris Broad, sanctioning him for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the first Test match against Pakistan in Manchester.

Broad Jr was fined on Tuesday for using “inappropriate language” after the pacer dismissed Yasir Shah, with 15 per cent of his match earnings docked in addition to a demerit point to his disciplinary record.

However, the 34-year-old joked on Twitter in response to the tweet by the Barmy Army that he was sanctioned by his father who was the match referee.

“He’s off the Christmas card & present list,” Broad tweeted.

Chris Broad is acting as the match referee for all Tests after the ICC decided to use home officials due to COVID-19 travel restrictions in place.

This was Broad’s third offence in a 24-month period, and the England pacer is looking at a possible ban if he accumulates another demerit point to his record in the next match in Southampton.

Broad’s previous breaches include using swear words at South African cricketer Faf du Plessis in Johannesburg earlier this year at the Wanderers. Before that, he used “aggressive language” at Rishabh Pant at Trent Bridge when India toured England in 2018. The sanction he received for his conduct against Pant will expire next week as demerit points stay on a player’s record for 24 months.

England take on Pakistan in the second Test of the three-match series at Southampton on Thursday. The hosts won the first Test by three wickets after Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes led a remarkable comeback for England after Pakistan tore through their top order.
