Wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt is all set to join the BJP, ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections next month. He is likely to be fielded in the elections, which is on October 21.

Dutt won a bronze at the 2012 London Olympics and was awarded the Padma Shri in 2013. He also won a gold medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

BJP Haryana president Subhash Barala said that Dutt met with senior leaders at the party headquarters, and informed him that he has submitted his resignation from Haryana Police.

The 36-year-old athlete, who was born in Sonipat, may be fielded from his hometown or Rohtak, according to sources.

The state unit had, reportedly, recommended Dutt's name ahead of the Lok Sabha polls earlier this year.

Chief Election Commission Sunil Arora, on September 21, informed that the voting in Maharashtra and Haryana will be held on October 21 and counting of votes on October 24.

Voting will be held to all 90 Assembly seats in Haryana, which has 1.82 crore registered voters, according to the Election Commission. The five-year term of the Legislative Assembly of Haryana expires on November 2.

The deadline for filing of nominations in Haryana is October 4. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is October 7.
