England vs Ireland: England win toss, opt to bat first in one-off Test

The one-off Test will be a good opportunity for England to prepare before the Ashes

England captain Joe Root won the toss and chose to bat first against Ireland in their one-off Test starting on Wednesday at Lord's.

The Test fixture against Ireland will prove to be a good opportunity for England to prepare its squad before the upcoming Ashes tour.

England, fresh off their maiden World Cup win, are favourites to win against neighbouring Ireland int he four-day match.

Jason Roy will make his Test debut for England and hope to replicate his good showing in the World Cup. Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer and Jos Buttler have been rested. James Anderson has been ruled out due to injury.

Ireland will be playing their thirs Test. They lost the Test matches played against Pakistan and Afghanistan in 2018. The Irish would be looking to make some kind of impact against one of the top Test-playing nations in cricket.
