The rape lawsuit filed against Juventus football player Cristiano Ronado has been dropped, as per reports. It is not clear if the accuser had reached a settlement agreement with Ronaldo.

A notice of voluntary dismissal was filed last month in Nevada state court in Las Vegas.

In September last year, 34-year-old Kathryn Mayorga accused Ronaldo of raping her in his Las Vegas hotel suite in 2009. Mayorga had reported the assault with the Las Vega Metropolitan Police Department but had not provided the suspect details when the report was made.

In her complaint, Mayorga mentioned that she met then 24-year-old Ronaldo at the Rain Nightclub in the Palms Hotel and Casino, and was later invited to his penthouse with other people. She alleged that she was raped when she went to change her clothes.

She said Ronaldo allowed her to leave, and said he was sorry, he was “usually a gentleman”.

Ronaldo had denied the accusations. He called the charges as “fake news” when the allegations were made. Juventus had extended their support to the striker following which it was subject to social media outrage.

Mayorga had said that she was forced to sign a nondisclosure agreement and settle the case for a payment of USD 375,000 to keep the alleged incident confidential.

Mayorga, in an interview with a German magazine Der Spiegel, said the #MeToo movement partly inspired her to come forward.

Ronaldo has won two La Liga titles and four Champions League titles with Real Madrid. He left to join Juventus for 100 million euros in 2018. He is also a five-time winner of the Ballon d'Or award.
