Dell Technologies expanded its consumer footprint in India this week by unveiling a new lineup that the hardware giant said was designed to bring premium performance to a wider audience. The launch in Delhi was headlined by a new “affordable and accessible” entrant in Dell’s iconic gaming lineup, the Alienware 15.

This move also signalled the PC maker’s strategic shift to make high-end gaming technology more accessible to the country’s burgeoning population of young enthusiasts and professionals.

The Alienware 15 is engineered for both performance and resilience. It features a 15.3-inch WUXGA display with a 165Hz refresh rate and a 16:10 aspect ratio, ensuring smooth visuals for competitive gameplay.

Under the hood, it packs up to Intel Core 7 (Series 2) 240H processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 graphics. Despite its power, the device maintains a portable profile at 2.25kg and introduces a "stealth mode" to help users transition seamlessly from gaming to professional environments.

Durability is a core focus, with the laptop tested to withstand 18-inch drops on all six sides and 60ml accidental spills. Explaining the strategy, Raj Kumar Rishi, Vice President and Managing Director, Dell Technologies India, told THE WEEK, “We are trying to give access to the

Alienware brand to a broader set of customers in a market which is already very big.”.

The launch also introduced the XPS 13, Dell’s thinnest and lightest XPS till date at just 1kg, and the AI-powered mainstays, the Dell 14S and 16S.

Chris Cowger, Senior Vice President at Dell, emphasised the importance of the region, noting,

“India is one of the most dynamic and demanding consumer markets in the world, home to consumers who expect technology that keeps pace with their ambitions.”

MTV celebrity and gamer Rannvijay Singha, who attended the launch, highlighted the importance of the internal engineering, saying: “As a gamer, that’s the most important thing; you don’t want the thermal performance to be poor because you don’t want the frame rate to drop.”

The Alienware 15 starts at ₹1,28,990, while the XPS 13 begins at ₹79,990, with both available through Dell’s extensive omnichannel network across 400 cities.

Cost-conscious gaming in India?

The cheapest Alienware 15 is a machine that runs on an Intel Core 7 processor (Series 2) 240H (24MB cache, 10 cores, up to 5.20 GHz P-Core) armed with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 (6 GB GDDR6) with a 16GB RAM (1x16GB, DDR5, 5600 MT/s) and 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Gen 4 SSD storage.

The gaming landscape in India is witnessing a significant evolution, moving from a niche hobby to a mainstream powerhouse that now accounts for approximately 15 to 20 per cent of the total consumer PC market, according to Rishi.

Dell’s strategy with the Alienware 15 seemed to be to tap into this growing community of Indian gamers, which includes everyone from serious e-sports competitors to casual hobbyists and professional creators. Raghav S, a pro-gamer from Mumbai, chimed in, “I personally would go for a higher spec gaming laptop that costs above ₹2 lakh in, but the new Alienware 15 at such prices is a bargain for novice gamers who want to pursue their careers in the industry. These are competitive prices, given the current RAM crisis.”
