India’s internet speed improves, moves up 4 places in global ranking

India’s mobile internet speed increased from 33.30 mbps to 36.35 mbp

India’s progress in the mobile internet speed rankings have been noteworthy in recent months, considering it was at No. 105 just back in November.

India’s internet speed has improved in speed tests. According to the Speedtest Global Index by Ookla, India’s net speed in both mobile as well as fixed broadband showed improvement in the month of April, compared to previous months.

In median mobile speeds, India’s speed increased from 33.30 mbps (mega bits per second) to 36.35 mbps. This improved the nation’s mobile internet speed rankings up four places from No. 64 to No. 60.

In median fixed broadband speeds, speed increased slightly from 50.71 Mbps in March to 51.12 Mbps in April. Thus moving it up from No. 83 to No. 84.

Qatar had the fastest mobile internet speeds, while Singapore remained at the top when it comes to fixed broadband internet speed.

Seattle-based Ookla, a connectivity intelligence and network insight company, runs its Speedtest Global Index ranks mobile and fixed broadband speeds around the world on a monthly basis, and is considered the authority on this matter. The data for the Global Index comes from the hundreds of millions of tests taken by real people using Speedtest every month to test their Internet performance.

According to the April Speedtest Global Index, Senegal registered the highest increase in rank when it came to mobile internet speeds and gained 16 spots globally, while Bahrain registered the highest increase in rank in fixed broadband speeds, going up 14 spots.

India’s progress in the mobile internet speed rankings have been noteworthy in recent months, considering it was at No. 105 just back in November. From there, it moved up rapidly to No. 69 in January and then to No. 67 in February, no doubt spurred by the rollout of 5G networks in the country.
