After changing the face of India's telecom industry, Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio is all set to turn around television sector. According to media reports, the telecom major will soon launch JioHomeTV, through which Reliance Jio will offer Standard-Definition (SD) channels at Rs 200 and SD+HD channels at Rs 400.

Apparently, the same plan is listed on the MyJio app.

However, there is little clarity on if JioHomeTV is the same as much-anticipated Jio DTH service or a different service altogether. Reports claim that Reliance Jio has been testing JioHomeTV for the past couple of years and is based on Enhanced Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (eMBMS). If true, JioHomeTV could be a first in India where the users won’t require an external device or Internet to access TV channels live on their devices.

According to reports, Reliance Jio is simultaneously working on three different services—DTH (Direct to Home set-top-box), IPTV (Internet Protocol television) service, and JioHomeTV.

Reliance Jio had tested an unreleased app on Google PlayStore called the JioBroadcast. The description of JioBroadcast revealed that it offered HD quality streaming on Jio LTE devices. However, the app has been currently delisted from the PlayStore. News reports speculate that this hints at the launch of the new service, possibly the JioHomeTV. However, experts are also not ruling out the fact that this could be a rebranding of the JioBroadcast service.
