Are you a UAE resident eyeing Tesla’s US Roadster? Well, bookings have opened for the next-generation Roadster in the UAE, and buyers have to pay AED 210,000 to book the car. However, just like in India, Tesla has stated there are no guaranteed timelines for delivery.
Elon Musk unveiled the vehicle at a demonstration in Texas last week, and the electric sports car was seen performing brief airborne manoeuvres using rocket-inspired thrusters.
The supercar has been listed under the 'Vehicles' section of Tesla's UAE website, with a 'Reserve Now' option allowing customers to choose between two versions. Buyers will need to put down deposits ranging from AED 210,000 to a cool AED 1.02 million, depending on the version they choose.
The first is the “Performance” variant, described as “road-ready”. This two-seater comes with active aerodynamics and a multi-mode suction system designed to improve grip and handling. For this model, buyers have to pay AED 20,000 upfront, which is fully refundable. This has to be followed by another AED 190,000 within 10 days. The total reservation amount is AED 210,000.
The second variant is the “race-ready” Thrust, which is a limited-release model. This includes the features of the Performance version, along with acceleration thrusters that Tesla says can propel the car from 0 to 100 km/h in under one second. Buyers must pay AED 20,000 upfront, also marked as fully refundable, followed by AED 1 million within 10 days. The total reservation amount is AED 1.02 million.
According to the reservation agreement, a reservation only becomes effective once the company receives the full payment, including the amount due within 10 days, and confirms the booking by email.
However, the minute details and legal conditions, written in small print in the reservation agreement, are raising many questions and doubts among interested parties and followers. While customers are paying substantial sums to reserve their spots, they are not guaranteed to actually receive the car. The reservation process merely places their names on a waiting list, without any clear guarantees of a delivery date or final fulfillment.
In India too, Tesla opened reservations, and one requires a substantial payment of Rs 50.06 lakh for the Performance model and Rs 2.50 crore for the Thrust variant.
Tesla has not confirmed its final India price, launch date, or delivery schedule. Production is expected to begin in 2028.
