A propaganda video featuring the son and heir of Al Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden was released on the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks by the terror outfit’s media wing, As-Sahab, on Friday.

The video featured the first-ever footage of Hamza bin Laden. The release has garnered attention from intelligence analysts, as Hamza was, according to the Trump administration, reportedly killed in US counterterrorism operations at the Afghan-Pakistan border in 2019, The Times of India reported.

However, unconfirmed media reports in 2024 claimed that Hamza bin Laden is still alive and that he was a senior leader of Al Qaeda.

The video titled “A Quarter Century of the 11 September Raids” also features unseen videos of AQ chief Ayman Al Zawahiri.

Unlike with bin Laden and al-Zawahiri, the outfit had not acknowledged Hamza’s death or issued its customary funeral eulogy after the US claimed that he was killed in 2019.

The 52-minute video aims to propagate the doctrine associated with the current chief Saif Al Adl. The Bin Laden name is reportedly aimed at recruitment.

The video reportedly opens with the September 2014 attack in the Karachi naval dockyard. The footage is largely archival and consists of scenes from the 9/11 attacks and excerpts from Western coverage of the attacks.

One of the central focuses of the footage is reportedly the assertion that the world was changed on September 11, 2001.

Hamza appears twice in the video. About 9 minutes into the video, he talks about an alleged war against Islam.

The video also only addresses him by name without the application of typical honorifics.

Intelligence sources said that the aim of opening wth the footage was to underscore the influence of Pakistani terrorists within Al Qaeda's central leadership and its propaganda apparatus.

Hamza appears several times in the video seated against a cracked wall with a rifle propped up beside him.

The release comes as New York conducted a remembrance for the September 11 attacks that killed nearly 3000 people.

Intelligence and counter terrorism agencies are reportedly examining why the footage has been released at this particular time.
