Iranian media has reported several explosions near Kharg Island, which houses the country’s main oil terminal, on Saturday. A small oil tanker was also reportedly hit, according to Iran’s Tehran-based Tasnim on Saturday, citing local sources.

Tasnim said that there were no casualties in the incident and that an evacuation was underway.

Fars news agency meanwhile said that its correspondent heard several blasts but that there was no smoke visible.

Asr Iran meanwhile reported that the tanker was struck by four projectiles launched by US forces.

There were no official announcements by Iranina or US Central Command on the incident.

The explosions were heard amid renewed tension between the US and Iran.

US President Donald Trump recently said that the US could strike Iran’s heavily fortified Pickaxe Mountain complex near Natanz “very soon.” He also claimed US forces had again destroyed Iranian radar capabilities.

On August 31, Trump posted a video of Kharg Island and said that it was being “blown to smithereens”.

Iranian authorities have vowed a strong response if Kharg is attacked.

The conflict is now in its seventh month. The clashes between the two sides resumed on Sunday. Tehran is continuing its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz while Washington maintains its blockade of Iranian ports.
