US President Donald Trump on Monday threatened to bomb yet another country in the Middle East and this time, the target of his rhetoric is Oman.
Trump's latest remarks were aimed at the parallel talks between Tehran and Muscat to reach a deal to share control the Strait of Hormuz. "If Oman gets in the way, we’ll bomb the sh*t out of them," the US president warned while speaking to FOX News.
With the 60-day MoU deadline to end the war permanently expiring on Monday, Tehran said it has reached an agreement with Muscat over a plan for ships to transit the strait passing between the two countries.
"An understanding has been reached regarding the map of the transit route," Iranian Foreign Affairs spokesperson Esmail Baghaei told media in Tehran on Monday.
The two sides are working to finalise the details for a joint statement. The agreement reportedly allow ships to enter through a route close Iranian shores and exit through a lane off the coast of Oman. During the interim period, vessels are reportedly allowed to pass without paying tolls.
While admitting that the talks have progressed slowly, Baghaei said, "We had planned, and still plan, to finalise the understanding in the form of a package: the map plus a joint statement."
Trump also reiterated that he would never allow Iran to possess a nuclear weapon. "The number one Goal is, and always will be, that Iran cannot have, in any way, shape, or form, a Nuclear Weapon," he posted on Truth Social.
