Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency has released an undated video showing Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei appearing to be in good health, amid media reports that he is in critical condition.

This was the first time Mehr, which is run by Iran’s Islamic Development Organisation, had published a video of the Supreme Leader.

Mojtaba has not made any public appearances since becoming Supreme Leader, replacing his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in one of the first strikes launched against Iran by the US and Israel.

On Friday, several Israeli media outlets reported that Khamenei was in an “extremely critical condition”. According to Channel 14, concerns over his health were circulating within Iran’s leadership.

“We would not be surprised if we heard news of his martyrdom soon,” one source cited by The Jerusalem Post said.

Reports indicate that Khamenei was injured and potentially disfigured in the initial strikes targeting his father’s compound, forcing him into hiding and compelling him to communicate with senior regime figures through a slow network of intermediaries to avoid detection and further targeting.

On Wednesday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian acknowledged in an interview aired on state television that communication with Khamenei is currently “very difficult”.

There has been speculation about Khamenei’s current location, with some media reports claiming that he is no longer in Iran. Earlier, US President Donald Trump asserted in a Fox News interview that Khamenei was “90 per cent gone” and incapacitated following the military campaign.

Although Iran’s leadership continues to downplay these claims, Khamenei’s persistent absence from public appearances has fueled intense speculation about his health and the stability of Iran’s leadership.
