As Dubai transforms into a world-class education hub, the emirate has released a list of top-performing private schools. The list has been compiled after several rounds of inspections carried out by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), an official government agency responsible for the growth, direction, and quality assurance of private education in Dubai.

According to KHDA, there are over 227 private schools with over 387,441 students. In its latest inspection cycle, the authority reviewed 209 of these schools, covering 360,420 students.

As per the rating system, every school inspected receives one of five ratings – outstanding, very good, good, acceptable or weak – and the KHDA reports that 81 per cent of Dubai’s students are now enrolled at schools rated Good or above, reported Arabian Business.

As many as 23 schools were rated outstanding while 48 schools were rated very good. Only 86 schools were rated good while 53 schools were rated acceptable.

Outstanding ratings

The schools which received outstanding ratings include  Kings School Dubai, Victory Heights Primary School, Dubai British School Jumeirah Park, Dubai British School, Jumeirah English Speaking School, Safa Community School, Nord Anglia International School, Dubai International Academy, Kings School Al Barsha, GEMS Dubai American Academy – Dubai Branch, Dubai English Speaking College, Dubai College, GEMS Wellington International School – Dubai Branch, Repton School, GEMS Modern Academy, GEMS Jumeira Primary School – Dubai Branch, Jumeirah English Speaking School, Horizons English School, Deira International School, Lycee Francais International Georges Pompidou School Oud Metha, Lycee Francais International and Dubai English Speaking School.        

Meanwhile, KHRA has issued new guidelines which stipulate how a child’s age, previous school records and individual learning needs will determine which grade or year group they enter at a Dubai private school.

“For Pre-KG through KG2 (FS1 to Year 1): age is the primary and overriding placement rule,” the guide states. “For Grade 1 (Year 2) and above: the transfer certificate (TC) is the primary placement reference. Where the TC grade and the UAE age–grade chart differ, the school must notify KHDA before confirming placement,” the KHRA norms claim.
