US President Donald Trump announced the completion of a peace deal with Iran, scheduled to be signed on June 19 in Switzerland, which includes the immediate removal of the US naval blockade and the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, a move expected to boost global markets rattled by recent conflict. Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister confirmed the deal, stating Tehran will enter a 60-day negotiation period for a final agreement only after Washington fulfills its commitments to end hostilities and lift the blockade, while also crediting Iran's military achievements for the outcome. Pakistan, acting as mediator, reported that both nations have agreed to a permanent termination of military operations across all fronts, including Lebanon, with further meetings to facilitate technical talks and the official signing ceremony. The agreement, which Trump claims will prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons through enhanced oversight and inspections, is described as a historic breakthrough that will bring peace and security to the region.

US President Donald Trump on Sunday announced the completion of a peace deal between the United States and Iran, and declared the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, raising hopes in global markets that have been rattled since the outbreak of war in February.

Trump also ordered the immediate removal of the US naval blockade in the strategically important waterway.

“The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all! I hereby fully authorise the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorise the immediate removal of the United States naval blockade. Ships of the world, start your engines. Let the oil flow!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The deal will be officially signed on June 19 in Switzerland. The text of the Memorandum of Understanding will be made public only after the agreement is signed.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, has confirmed a peace deal with the United States. He said that Tehran will enter a proposed 60-day negotiation period for a final agreement only after verifying Washington’s commitments toward ending hostilities, lifting the blockade, and releasing Iranian assets.

Gharibabadi claimed victory for Iran and said the peace deal was not just a product of diplomacy, but also indebted to Iran’s military achievements.

“It is indebted to the pure blood of the martyrs we gave in confronting the enemies of the establishment,” he said, confirming that the official signing of the deal will take place on Friday.

Gharibabadi said Iran had incorporated all of its key positions into the draft MoU and stressed that the document should not be interpreted as a sign of trust in Washington.

Pakistan, which has been mediating between the two sides, said both Tehran and Washington have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye for supporting the mediation efforts.

“With the agreement now in place, mediators will facilitate a series of meetings this week. These pre-implementation discussions will lay the foundation for technical talks and the official signing ceremony,” he said.

According to reports, the signing of the draft agreement was expected on Sunday morning but was delayed for several hours following the escalation in Lebanon.

According to an Axios report, the strike in Beirut occurred shortly before Washington and Tehran were expected to finalise the agreement. Trump had criticised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying the attack had complicated ongoing diplomatic efforts.

In his Truth Social post, Trump maintained that the agreement would enhance regional security by preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and by establishing stronger oversight mechanisms for Tehran’s nuclear programme, including inspections and the disposal of nuclear material.

He described the agreement as a historic breakthrough and said previous US administrations had failed to achieve a similar outcome with Iran.

“This great deal will bring peace and security to the whole region. Many presidents have tried to make peace with Iran, and all have failed before me. The leaders of the region have, for the first time, found a president who can help them achieve real peace,” Trump wrote.

“With the opening of the Strait upon the signing of the deal on Friday, for purposes of mine removal, oil will flow on both ends again for the region and the world!” he added.
