Even as President Donald Trump's deadline for Iran to strike a deal or open the Strait of Hormuz nears, the US ‌forces, on Tuesday, carried out strikes on military targets in Iran's strategic Kharg Island.

US officials have confirmed to news agency Reuters that military targets in Kharg Island, which is Iran’s primary oil export terminal, were struck. The US officials, however, clarified that the strikes did not impact oil infrastructure. According to reports, more than 50 military targets on the island were struck.

Kharg Island is located in the Persian Gulf, near the Strait of Hormuz. Any major disruption at Kharg Island can immediately impact global oil prices.

Trump has, in the past, threatened to bomb or take control of the island, which handles the bulk of the country’s crude shipments, multiple times.

The reports come even as Trump, in his latest Truth Social post, said a "whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again."

As the deadline nears, Trump further said something drastic is going to happen tonight.

"I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!," his post read.
