Explosions rock Iran: Isfahan's strategic hub targeted by US bunker buster bombs

Shortly after footage from Iran’s Esfahan city showed a mushroom‑shaped explosion that caused a bright and luminous cloud, reports claim that the US has used 2,000-pound bunker buster bombs.

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, a “high volume” of 2,000-pound bunker buster bombs was used in the strike in Isfahan. Earlier, US President Donald Trump had shared a video of fiery blasts that had taken place in Isfahan, the country’s third-most populous city.

Isfahan, one of the main cities in Iran, is located in the centre of the country, south of the capital, Tehran, along the Zayandeh River. It is a particularly important strategic junction, combining military infrastructure, activity related to the Iranian nuclear program, and national and symbolic significance for the regime.

Esfahan Province is also home to major facilities related to Iran's armed forces, as well as advanced defence industries. Among other things, the Isfahan Nuclear Fuel Research and Production Centre, which plays a role in uranium processing processes, is located in the area. The Iran Aerospace Industries Company, which specialises in aviation production, helicopter maintenance, and the development of military equipment, also operates in the area.

More attacks were also reported at Tehran and several western provinces of Iran,  including the southwestern provinces of the country. Two explosions occurred at 4:00 an n Zanjan, and one unit was targeted. An hour later, an explosion was reported near the Khayyam area of ​​the city.

According to Iran International, several consecutive explosions were heard in the Nobaniad area in eastern Tehran. Minutes later, a loud explosion was reported in the Shahr-e-Ara area. Area 22 in western Tehran was targeted three times.

Heavy smoke was also seen in Shahid Rajaee Town in Nobaniad at 6:00 p.m. The sound  of a fighter jet and two explosions were heard from a distance at 5:53 AM near the base and a large industrial park in Shiraz.
