A fire has broken out in the UAE’s Fujairah port, Emirati media confirmed on Saturday.
The incident occurred after the debris from a successful drone interception fell onto the site. There have been no injuries reported in the incident.
Some of the oil loading operations in the ports outside of the Strait of Hormuz have been suspended after the drone attack on Saturday, sources told Bloomberg.
Details of the damage incurred during the incident have not been made public.
Bloomberg News earlier reported that some oil-loading operations in the port of Fujairah, outside the Strait of Hormuz, had been suspended after a drone attack and fire.
The port is located in the Gulf of Oman outside the Strait of Hormuz, making it a vital energy hub. It is connected to Abu Dhabi’s oil fields via the ADCOP Abu Dhabi Crude Oil Pipeline. About 1.8 million barrels of crude oil are exported daily through this route to Asia and Europe.
The attack on Fujairah port is likely Iran’s response to the US bombing on Kharg Island, Iran’s largest hub for crude oil and petroleum products. Iran had warned that it would strike US-linked energy facilities in the region in response.
On Tuesday, ADNOC, Abu Dhabi’s state oil giant, shut its Ruwais refinery in response to a fire at a facility within the complex following a drone strike.
