How UAE's largest AI-powered clinical diagnostic lab will revolutionise its healthcare sector

Spread over 70,000 square feet across seven storeys, the 24x7 lab in Abu Dhabi can process over 30 million samples every year

The Middle East’s largest healthcare group PureHealth has opened the UAE's largest AI-powered clinical diagnostic laboratory in Abu Dhabi. Spread over 70,000 square feet across seven storeys, the 24x7 lab can process over 30 million samples every year.

Aiming to revolutionise the healthcare sector in the Emirates, the lab will use real-time AI quality checks and tie up with 140 top laboratories in the country. However, the facility is not just powered by AI. It also integrates robotics, state-of-the-art sample-transport and automation systems.

The lab, which is developed by PureHealth subsidiary PureLab, will not just reduce the diagnosis time, but also improve accuracy of the diagnosis. PureLab CEO Arindam Halder said the lab will be key to newborn screening, infectious disease surveillance and transplant compatibility in the country.

The facility will cover 1,800 test parameters in the fields of infectious disease detection, molecular genetics, anatomic pathology, hematopathology, and tissue compatibility for organ and bone marrow transplants. It will offer services like walk-in diagnostics and home-testing pilots with a focus on patients.

Dr Fayeza Saif Alyafei, executive director of the healthcare quality sector at DoH, Abu Dhabi, said will help establish a smart and patient-centred healthcare system. “We are committed to fostering innovation that enhances diagnostic accuracy, accelerates care delivery and improves health outcomes,” she added.

Acting as a central hub, the lab will be integrated with oncology centres across the UAE. This will allow real-time remote slide viewing and virtual consultations to speed up clinical decisions.

The whole facility is built in an energy-efficient manner, with rooftop solar panels, fully hybrid transport fleet and no-paper policy.
